The 6 Biggest Myths in Natural Medicine
by Lisa Barger
Lets examine the most common myths surrounding natural medicine:
1. You can achieve perfect health. There is no such thing as perfect health. Every moment in our lives something is happening somewhere in our body. Injuries, infections and even simple wear-and-tear are all a part of life.
2. Drugs have no place in natural medicine. Natural practitioners minimize the use of prescription drugs as much as possible but no legitimate practitioner will ever tell you that drugs are useless.
3. Nutrition is the only therapy you need. Even mainstream medicine recognizes the importance of proper nutrition but a good diet is only part of the answer. Even the best diet cant protect you from all illnesses.
4. Natural medicine can completely replace mainstream medicine. I suppose you could argue that our ancestors survived quite nicely without x-rays, chemotherapy or vaccinations but do you really want to go back to a time when tooth decay was deadly and surgeries were performed without anesthesia?
5. 'My system has all the answers.' One of the problems with so-called 'natural' therapies is they tend to be narrowly focused on a single aspect of health. Herbalism, for instance, tends to focus on the use of botanicals to treat illnesses while naturopathy tends to focus mainly on nutrition. The only natural therapy that even comes close to being a full-service natural medicine is Ayurveda.
6. Natural medicine is safer than mainstream medicine. Regardless of what you read on other web sites, anything capable of producing change in the human body is also capable of causing harm.
