Side Effects of Drugs Prescribed for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Aminosalicylates are the most commonly prescribed drug for mild to moderate IBD. Sulfasalzine is one such medicine that is prescribed belonging to this group that has been used for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. However, Sulfasalzine has some strong side effects including heartburn, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and headaches. This drug also contains sulfa, with many people experience allergic reactions. Other Aminosalicylates like Balsalazide, which is a newer drug, do not have such severe side effects.
