Herbology Certification: What it Means

by CarolAnn Bailey-Lloyd

Herbology certification is helpful to those who want to become certified herbal consultants, natural health consultants or certified professional herbalists. A herbology certification course is also beneficial to natural health practitioners who desire to expand client services. Depending on the curriculum of the school in which you enroll, you may opt to participate in a Chinese herbology certification course; which leans more toward Oriental and Eastern medicine modalities.

Generally, in a herbology certification course for natural health consultants, students will learn about natural healing, herbal consulting, and other natural alternatives; which includes basics in how to use herbs, how they work and the bodys reaction to these herbs. Additional instruction often includes general plant chemistry, plant formulations, and legal issues surrounding herbal medicine.

Herbology certification courses to become certified herbal consultants will typically involve training and education in natural consultation; iridology, in relation to herbal medicine; health assessment methods; herbal preparations and basic herbal medicine; herbal healing and other natural remedies.

To become a certified professional herbalist, students enrolled in a herbology certification course will gain advanced training and education in anatomy and physiology, herbal medical terminology and pathology, pharmacognosy and interactions, aromatherapy, botany and other related subject matter.

Successful graduates of a herbology certification program can go onto becoming entrepreneurs in the field of herbalism, or may use this acquired knowledge and training to add to existing services of an established natural healthcare practice.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in earning your herbology certification, let career training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, cosmetology, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Explore career school programs near you.
