Herbology
by CarolAnn Bailey-Lloyd
Students who opt to pursue an education in one of a number of herbology schools will find that opportunities exist for certificate and diploma programs. In these training programs, individuals will gain vast knowledge in the world of herbalism; including extensive coursework in plant cultivation, Materia Media, physiology, anatomy and related terminology, the making of medicinal compounds, case studies and common philosophies pertaining to herbology.
In many cases, herbology schools integrate Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and other Oriental medicine courses to further expand the knowledgebase and understanding of herbalism. Students who participate in herbology schools will also learn how to properly use herbs in aromatherapy, medicine and even as spices. Candidates who have achieved certification can go onto careers in homeopathy, natural medicine, Ayurveda, holistic health care, and other associated fields of natural health care.
