Colonic Hydrotherapy Schools - A Basic Outline
by C. Bailey-Lloyd
Colonic hydrotherapy schools prepare students to become professional therapists who will perform colonic irrigation sessions involving rectal insertion of a narrow nozzle, where water will gently flow into the rectum for internal cleansing process. Students learn to monitor the clients comfort level, and to gently massage the abdomen to provide relief from cramping that may occur. As a detoxification method, colonic hydrotherapy is considered by many to be a beneficial natural healing therapy.
Generally, colonic hydrotherapy schools provide certificate training programs that are about 100 class hours. Students will gain knowledge and skills in anatomy and physiology (body structure and function processes); how to properly maintain, sanitize, disinfect and utilize colonic hydrotherapy-specific equipment; meditation and healing; nutrition; and reflexology (optional). In addition to standard training in preserving integrity and professionalism, students are given basic accounting and business administration skills related to colon hydrotherapy practice and medical billing forms.
Students taking colonic hydrotherapy training will also gain practical skills in the actual procedure of colonic irrigation. Initially, students will observe a colon hydrotherapist in real-life sessions with clients, and learn how equipment is appropriately disinfected and prepared for use. Once students are properly trained in the use of the colonic hydrotherapy equipment, they will then, as part of the course, actually perform a colonic hydrotherapy session.
Many students who start out learning colonic hydrotherapy will decide to branch out into other, more advanced forms of natural healing, such as chiropractic or acupuncture, for instance.
