Calorie count trumps 'healthful' foods for those seeking weight loss
by John
The article aptly points out that there is a huge difference between so called healthy foods, like nuts, granola and yogurt and those foods that will help you lose weight.
At getfitsource.com we believe that losing weight is all about calorie control as opposed to eating so called healthful foods. All other things being equal, of course, we want to consume lots of healthful foods, like vegetables and fruit, low fat, lean cuts of meat, and foods high in anti oxidants and minerals and vitamins. However, the key to losing weight is cutting calories and you wont lose weight if you over consume healthful foods. And, of course, some so called healthful foods are anything but healthful. Such foods as low fat cookies clearly fall into this category. With many so called 'low fat' foods, one is just substituting highly caloric refined crabs for a reduction in fat--a sure path to dietary disaster.
The facts of life are that you should eat healthy, yes. But if you want to lose weight, you have to limit caloric intake. An eight ounce glass of orange juice, a healthy choice for sure, is going to have a similar caloric content to an eight ounce glass of soda pop. They will both make you gain an equivalent amount.
And, quoting from the article: 'Rather than using all the marketing claims, the best thing to do is turn the product over and look at the nutritional facts to check the caloric content and pay attention to the serving size.'.
