Bowel Irritable?
by Patsy Hamilton
We have received questions about bowel irritable nausea syndrome and we must assume that these questions refer to irritable bowel syndrome, because there is no condition called bowel irritable nausea syndrome that we are aware of. In some cases we have seen reference to abdominal bowel irritable pain syndrome, but once again, we think that these are questions about IBS. Briefly here, we look at the most common symptoms of IBS.
Irritable bowel syndrome signs and symptoms typically include abdominal (stomach) pain that is relieved by a bowel movement. Doctors also typically diagnose IBS when there is a change in the frequency of bowel movements, going more and less often than usual. Diarrhea, constipation or a combination of both may be present. The stool may be harder than usual or softer than usual and mucus may be present in the stool. People with IBS may have excessive gas and bloating or a feeling that the stomach is swollen. All of this may cause pain and discomfort. Stress and anxiety sometimes accompany irritable bowel syndrome symptoms.
